"Dear brothers and sisters, when troubles of any kind come your way, consider it an opportunity for great joy. For you know that when your faith is tested, your endurance has a chance to grow." -James 1:2-3 (NLT)
The truth is - it's so easy to love, praise, and honor God when things are going smoothly, but what about when you hit a roadblock in your journey? Do you have the same attitude as when everything was going right? How do you react when hardships pay you a visit?
James reminds us to count it all joy when every type of trial comes your way.
"When" not "if." So if we know to expect trials during our walk in Christ, shouldn't we be prepare our minds in advance of what to do when tests come to greet you? Will you allow it to alter everything you felt and believed just a moment before or will you see this as an opportunity to test your faith and strengthen your endurance?
Develop a game plan to revert to when the unexpected comes your way:
Create a go-to mindset that results in not falling under our fleshly emotions but viewing the hardship as an opportunity for growth. Can you say perspective?
Surrounding yourself with believers who will encourage you to endure the test and look to God for the next steps
Staying intertwined with God daily to keep our focus on the bigger picture (we recommend turning on praise and worship music, praying, and diving into His Word)
Give it All to Him
God promises to help you through the hardships if only we go to Him with everything we have. He is not looking for partial faith, but 100% of us. It may be easy to get impatient during prayer and rely on what we can do during the midst of a trial, but making sure your faith is in God along will allow Him to blow your mind with His miraculous wonders!
The attitude of prayer is also important. Pray expectantly with complete faith that God can do amazing things. Here are some topics to include in your prayer life while enduring a test:
Wisdom to make wise decisions during difficult circumstances
Strength to endure each moment and to not allow the hardships as distractions
Remembrance to hold on to the promises that God will bring you through these tests by giving Him all of your faith.
Tap Into The Joy
We really get an opportunity to see the depths of our character when we see how we react under pressure.
Remember God does not give us more than we can handle. If He is allowing a trial to come your way, He believes you are ready for it. Surprise yourself and others by not allowing the unexpected circumstances change the light shining inside of you!
God is not looking to make every day easy breezy and to take all the pain away, but as the good Father He is, He is looking to grow and develop you into a mature and complete child of the King. Let the hardships be a time of learning and thank God for taking you to the next level. The Christian walk is not to remain stagnant, but for continuous growth.
We all face roadblocks and it’s okay if we haven’t had the right perspective in past when things were not going so smoothly. Maybe you’ve cried out to God asking “WHY ME?!” or maybe blamed yourself for what you were enduring. Let us look forward with a fresh perspective on facing hardships and know that God is there every step of the way.
